Surprising (But Tasty) Meals That Use Chicken Wing Stock

Posted on: 7 July 2015

Chicken wings are a tasty meal, but what happens when you have leftovers? While you can reheat them, they never seem to have the same flavor. Why not turn them into chicken stock and create one of the following tasty meals?

Multi-Soup Meal

Chicken stock or broth is a common ingredient in many soups. Create a diverse meal by using chicken wings to make multiple soups for one sitting. This approach is especially useful if you plan on serving multiple people; they'll definitely appreciate the diversity.

Use your chicken stock to make the following soups:

  • Egg drop soup
  • Tortilla soup
  • Noodle soup
  • Miso soup
  • Bean and sausage soup
  • Rice and lemon soup

If you're serving just yourself, scaling down these recipes is relatively easy. For example, a personal-sized egg drop soup recipe requires just one cup of stock whisked with a teaspoon of cornstarch, and then with one egg mixed inside the stock.

Delicious Sauces

Chicken stock can be transformed into a variety of simple sauces that can be used for a wide variety of meals. Start by mixing your a bowl of chicken stock and various tasty ingredients in a large pan.

The ingredients you use can vary depending on your preference, but common chicken stock sauce ingredients include lemon grass, clam juice, and tomatoes. Try to avoid solid materials, as this can cause your sauce to thicken too much.

Now, add a teaspoon of cornstarch to the mix and stir to thicken it up. If it starts to thicken too much, add a little more stock to thin it out. It should be somewhere between a liquid and a gravy. Cook it on medium heat on your stove, stirring it occasionally to avoid sticking. Pour your sauce into a glass container once it has cooled and store in the refrigerator for later use.

Flavoring Pork Dishes

Pork is one of those adaptable meats that tastes great with any number of ingredients. Slow-cooking pork soaked in chicken stock is one of the tastiest ways to re-use your old chicken wing stock. It creates a tender and rich dish that goes well with any number of foods.

Start by placing however much chopped pork you want to cook in a crock pot. Fill the crock pot with chicken stock until the pork is fully covered. Add a pinch of flavoring, such as minced garlic, to enhance the flavor even further. You can also add vegetables, such as carrots and potatoes, to the mix.

Now, turn your crock pot on "High" for about an hour to help it reach 140 degrees as quickly as possible. After the first hour, turn the temperature to "Low" and let it cook for several hours. Once it's done, serve it over rice.

Once you've mastered these dishes, why not try varying them to create your own personal "twist" on each? It will expand your recipe book and create a diverse range of dishes for your family.
